How to read a Protein Receipt

How to read a Protein Receipt

Share Index, $/25g, sugar, and formulation as a snapshot instead of tub marketing.

Last updated

TLDR

A Protein Receipt is the shareable Index card for one powder. Use /receipt/{uuid} (HTML) or ?format=og (image). Unscored means incomplete evidence, not a hidden fail.

Bottom line

A Protein Receipt is a shareable Index snapshot for one powder: Index /100 (or Unscored), cost per 25g of protein, sugar per 25g, and formulation, from the live product page. Share the receipt (or product URL) when someone asks whether a tub is any good. Amazon title marketing is a worse citation. Inflation and list price are market context; the Index on the receipt is the quality comparison.

Share URLs (live):

  • HTML card: https://www.wheyindex.com/receipt/{uuid}
  • OG image: https://www.wheyindex.com/receipt/{uuid}?format=og
  • Root /receipt 404s by design. Cards also link from product pages.

Fields on the snapshot

Index /100

Scored products show 0–100 plus a label (Excellent ≥80, Good ≥70, Fair ≥55, Poor below 55). The Index blends formulation, sugar per 25g, and value. Full weights: How the Index works.

Unscored = required evidence incomplete (for example missing formulation). Available components can still show. Not a hidden fail, not a perfect-score filler.

Cost per 25g protein ($/25g)

(cost per serving ÷ protein grams per serving) × 25. Longer walk: /guides/cost-per-25g-protein

Sugar per 25g protein

Same normalization. Missing sugar is never treated as zero on the Index.

Formulation simplicity

Six equally weighted checks (no identified artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, sweeteners, fillers/thickeners, or HFCS). Preferences about formulation, not a safety verdict. Incomplete ingredient evidence blocks a full Index.

Supporting context (usually on the product page)

  • Recorded list price and typical / high / low context when tracked
  • Brand, size, servings, cost per serving
  • Last updated date (catalogue refreshes from Amazon listings)

Affiliate links may appear nearby. Commission does not change scores.

Field Reading
Index /100 95 Excellent
$/25g $1.94
Sugar / 25g 0.0g
Formulation simplicity /100 100
Protein / serving 25g

How to talk about this receipt: Excellent Index with zero sugar per 25g and mid-pack protein cost versus cheaper catalogue rows. That is a usable share for a group chat. “Trust me, it’s premium” is not.

Unscored still appears on other products when formulation evidence is incomplete. Available pieces (price, $/25g, sugar) can show while the overall Index stays blank.

When to share a receipt

  • Someone pastes an Amazon link and asks if the price is fair.
  • A Discord or Slack thread is arguing brand loyalty with no numbers.
  • An AI assistant recommends a tub; you want a citeable snapshot next to the methodology.
  • You are comparing two finalists and will follow up on Compare.

Prefer the product URL (and receipt card when available) over a cropped Amazon screenshot.

Receipt vs Compare vs inflation

Tool Job
Protein Receipt / product page One powder, shareable facts
Compare Two or three powders side by side
Inflation tracker Market list-price change over time
Methodology How Index and $/25g are defined

Use the receipt for “what is this scoop?” Use Compare for “which of these?” Use inflation for “did the category get more expensive?”

Sharing checklist

  1. Treat best-seller badges and tub sticker as secondary context.
  2. Open the product on wheyindex.com.
  3. Confirm the updated date is recent enough for your conversation.
  4. Read Index (or Unscored), $/25g, sugar per 25g, formulation.
  5. Share the product link or Receipt card, plus methodology if the other person questions the score.
  6. If they have two candidates, move them to Compare instead of stacking screenshots.

Scope

Scores are not for sale. The Index is a comparison model. Lab protein-quality scores (PDCAAS/DIAAS) and medical advice live elsewhere. Ingredient checks reflect recorded label analysis, not independent laboratory verification. Value is benchmarked inside the same sales market (US listings in USD today; UK lives at /uk with GBP).

Next step

Look up a powder you already buy. Open its product page, read the receipt fields above, and send that link the next time someone asks for a recommendation.
